A three-time Olympic champion Darya Domracheva from Belarus became the winner of the big Crystal Globe. She finished 4th , however, this was enough to win the main Trophy of the season. The Globe was presented by the acting governor of Ugra Natalia Komarova.
Darya Domracheva was born in Minsk but at the age of 4 she moved with her family to Ugra. That is where she started to go into cross-country skiing and at the age of 11 Darya tried biathlon as it seemed to be a more perspective sport. In 1997 in Ugra she took part in her first competitions.
In the beginning of her sport career Darya Domracheva was representing Russia but in 2004 she got an offer from the chief coach of Belarusian team to become a member of the home country squad. So Darya agreed to start training for the team of Belarus.
Her World Cup debut was on December’01’2006 in Ostersund, Sweden, when she was 16th in sprint. The main achievement of Darya was three Olympic gold medals won in Sochi. Now she has all main biathlon awards in her collection.
“It’s difficult to describe my emotions, I still feel excited after the race. I had a very difficult season and I am glad to come through all these races and to show a good result in this final race of the season” – said Darya Domracheva after finish.
In addition to the big Crystal Globe Darya Domracheva has a small Globe in sprint.
