The farewell ceremony in honor of a two-time Olympic champion Olga Zaytseva was held between men’s and women’s pursuit races.
Athletes of Russian men’s biathlon team as well as former relay partners of Olga Zaytseva Olga Vilukhina and Anna Bogaliy have participated in the ceremony.
The bronze-winner of pursuit Anton Shipulin wished Olga to stay in sport in any role: «We can’t imagine biathlon without Olga Zaytseva. Olga is the mother of biathlon! She was always a role model for me», — said Shipulin.
One more biathlon legend – Ole Einar Bjorndalen from Norway – was also in the centre of attention. He has received an authentic Siberian present from his die-hard fan living in Khanty-Mansiysk – a handmade jam made of pine-cones.
50 y.o. Vasiliy Novoselov from Khanty-Mansiysk is following all the races of the eight-time Olympic champion and wanted to make some special present for him. So the chance was given on the World Cup Final held in his hometown.
«Take this pine-cone jam; it is very good for health. Besides, you are competing here, in the middle of pine forest, maybe you would like to try this local dainty. I hope that with the help of this Siberian jam you will stay in a good shape for a very long time», — wished Bjorndalen a man from Khanty-Mansiysk.
